Opportunity Snapshot

Are you interested in the opportunity to step in at a start-up, make sure the proper staff is aboard, and set everything in place, creating your own policies, processes, systems and forms? You will have the latitude and autonomy to re-create the entire department to match your high and innovative standards, driving success from the ground up -- and being amply rewarded upon doing so. Simply put, our company is exploding with opportunities as an incredibly fast-growing organization with 100 employees now -- up from one employee two years ago -- so advancement opportunities are unbelievable based on performance.

All Green Electronics Recycling is a full-service, electronics recycler serving both consumers and industries. We have the breadth of services, depth of resources, and nationwide partners and facilities capable of serving the recycling needs of all industries. We currently collect over one million pounds of electronics per month and we have the capacity to process up to 100 million pounds of electronic waste (e-waste) per year.

The Requirements

To be a good fit for this opportunity you will have:
  • A bachelor's degree, which is required; an AA degree is negotiable based on relevant past experience.
  • Computer savvy for this complicated logistical role which requires solid skills in terms of computers, GPS, reading maps, and consideration of traffic patterns.
  • Experience managing drivers of 26-foot box trucks who need a lot of guidance due to inexperience.
  • Quick question for you - click here
  • Proven experience hiring, training and managing drivers. Ability to create and conduct on-going training for drivers.
  • Experience analyzing daily reports for the purpose of tracking cost effectiveness and efficiency.
  • A chameleon demeanor allowing you to deal effectively across the board, from the CEO and company management to the minimum-wage employee.
  • Strong self-motivation and the ability to achieve goals independently (lots of job descriptions talk about this, but these characteristics are essential to success at All Green because we are a new company and our processes and training systems are not developed). You will need to learn and act on your own with very little direction.
  • Having been the sole Logistics/Transportation person with little administrative and dispatch support for a small to medium size company or start-up would be ideal. Hands-on, doer mentality.
  • Willingness and ability to work long hours and Saturdays is a must for this role.

The Role

In this new, highly visible role reporting to the CEO, you will oversee three to four supervisors with a total of 20 to 25 drivers and helpers divided among their respective teams. Primarily, this role will manage a fleet of up to 15 trucks with the highest priority on accurately planning routes for 10 to 15 trucks with 50 to 60 stops per day for the next day. This requires a unique set of skills such as computer savvy because we are not a huge company with high-tech logistics software; you will work toward route improvement and cutting costs by using -- initially -- Google and wall maps, considering traffic and other factors to increase route efficiency based on logistics. For example, cost effectiveness and minimizing costs result from proper route management, optimizing expenses of renting trucks, and keeping fuel costs down. Quick question for you - click here

To summarize, your key responsibilities are to:
  • Manage a fleet of up to 15 trucks and approximately 25 employees, some of whom are based remotely up and down the West Coast.
  • Recruit, interview, hire, manage and train new employees.
  • Create training manuals and conduct pre-employment, advanced level and health and safety training sessions for new and existing employees.
  • Oversee and be responsible for the maintenance and up keeping of all trucks and equipment, and making sure that the operation of these trucks and equipment falls within all laws and guidelines related. May be ask to purchase new trucks with a thriftiness to find the best deals via auctions, etc.
  • Developing any necessary infrastructure, policies and procedures from scratch.
  • Minimize costs by practicing proficiency at proper route management, taking into account factors such as traffic flow, lowering truck-rental expenses, and fuel costs.
  • Schedule drivers and ensure they show up, check out trucks as they go out, and stay in communication throughout the day, particularly with the remote-management necessity.
  • Oversee loss prevention within routes to track and communicate with drivers to ensure items are not being stolen from a security standpoint.
  • Communicate with the sales team to help provide whatever is necessary per the customers' requests.
  • Implement a GPS system.
Note: this description is intended to give you a general overview of the position and is not an exhaustive listing of duties and responsibilities.

Why All Green?

Strategic impact -- in addition to establishing and executing optimal fleet logistics that will drive our growth, you will be part of our evolving and motivated leadership team.

Diverse challenges, opportunities -- you'll be able to showcase and implement your creativity and precise planning across our fleet-logistics realm.

Strong momentum -- combine the expanding interest in green solutions with the explosion in the production of electronic devices and you can see that All Green Electronics Recycling is part of a strong growth sector. The company itself is growing as well: we started a little less than two years ago with a single employee, and today we have more than 100.

A culture of success -- the environment is fast-paced, creative, and entrepreneurial. For example, once a month we have a Day of Autonomy (similar to Google and other progressive companies) during which each employee works on his or her own project or initiative. The following day we all get together to share accomplishments and ideas.

Excellent compensation -- you provide the drive and entrepreneurial spirit, and we'll provide a compensation plan that motivates you and handsomely rewards your success along with comprehensive benefits.

Keys to Success

To successfully hit the ground running, you will come in with a high level of energy and drive, and a can-do attitude. This is a demanding role and the right person will be a perfectionist -- an ultimate planner who plans ahead, writes everything down, and tracks every move of the fleet team. Solid multi-tasking skills and great attention to detail are essential for calmly and competently dealing with a multitude of potentially simultaneous issues. If you are looking for a status-quo, 8-to-5 job, that is not us. Getting calls for resolution at odd hours and working Saturdays is required with this role. You also will need to execute strategy and that will require you to work long hours and "roll up your sleeves" in our fast-paced, high pressure environment. There are currently no formal policies and procedures around logistics, and many of the common practices that exist are flawed and need to be changed. If you need a playbook to know what to do next, this isn't the role for you. You'll need to hit the ground running and take initiative for making things happen. For example, if you find a situation in which policies and procedures are not in place, you'll need to create them. You also will need to be resourceful and self-motivated in a lean business model.

If this sounds like the right mix of challenge and opportunity, and you meet the required qualifications, we look forward to hearing from you.
